I'm not sure about the sand. It adds a bit of narrative to the image, but without it I feel the image would achieve more in terms of beauty - But what is beaty if not nature.

Still, amazing shot - I love the clouds, in a way they match the sand in terms of angle.
But the stones/rocks are perfect - they look like a beast rising out of the water.

Nicely done.

Thanks Alan. I appreciate the well thought out comment. It's always interesting to hear how other see your images.

To be honest, this was my first experiment with pre-dawn long exposures. I don't know that I was going for any "feel" in particular. All I was after was a "correct" exposure, and I quite liked the result. Since then I've experimented a fair bit more and learned a bit in the process about this kind of photography and I can actually attempt certain ideas.

I'll be heading back to this place in a couple weeks so I might try shooting it again. Or maybe I'll just sit there without my camera for once and drink in the sunrise. ;)

Well when we use our photographic voice we realise how much we can truly say, and I think your progress is very noticeable.

I commented on your other work - The Blue/Orange/White colours that I love and I can see the progression - However, I do enjoy the composition that you have here - The exposure is "Correct" yes - Slight over exposed in the sky, but without that there would be no character to the image. - By that i mean that the white adds an element of peace to the composition that, as i said, is enjoyable.

But definetly - Experiment, have a shot - Personally i'd love to do these kinds of shots and am hoping to next year - Just gotta take a ride around the north of Scotland.
Sadly the only costal areas i live near are full of boats - And I'm sure there would be some creativity flowing out of it, but i'd rather have an idea before i go out. :)

Im glad you appreciated the comment though :)
Good Luck when you're out in a few weeks, I hope to see the results :)

Thanks David.

Like you I'm a Sydney-sider (my 2 favourite spots are Turimetta & Forresters). I've spoken to Brent before about the free photo guides site (and perhaps contributing something in the Eurobodalla area, as I've shot Tuross Head & the area around it a bit). In fact I was trying to hook up with Brent this weekend at Forresters but alas it was not to be (I shot there yesterday morning though, before the weather rolled in - beautiful area).
